Feather Marquetry is a 16th century technique that are practiced by very few surviving artisans in China. Arranging feathers in the process of feather marquetry is a grueling test of the aesthetic and skill of a craftsman, who must decide whether the color should be uniform or gradient and take into consideration the line of each feather and its consistency with the theme. This Butterfly Dreams vase, taking inspiration from a Chinese fable, is a modern interpretation of an ancient technique, evolved into contemporary aesthetics.
